KCW Engineering hosts Young Enterprising Women Mentorship Forum awarding $2,500 STEM Scholarship & KCW Shadow Days
35 high school STEM students, 5 trailblazing women in STEM industries, 4 recipients of a KCW Shadow Day and a $2,500 STEM scholarship sending 2 students to a National Networking Conference in Florida comprise KCW Engineering’s Young Enterprising Women (YEW) Mentorship Forum.
KCW CEO Kimberly Groves was inspired to host this forum after attending the Enterprising Women Conference last March, where she and KCW partner Melissa Walker were awarded Enterprising Women of the Year, and given the opportunity to mentor high school students from across the nation. Groves left the conference impressed and determined to offer this same opportunity in her local community.
“My goal for this scholarship is to create a platform where young women can access experiences and resources that showcase what the STEM industry has to offer. I hope that we can kick-start the young women’s career and model what opportunities are available to them,” said Kimberly Groves, President, CEO and co-owner of KCW.
Experienced STEM panelists & dedicated young women
The forum was hosted at Anne Arundel Community College where students heard from a panel of five STEM executives including Dorothy H. Morrison, Director for Environment and Sustainability at the Maryland Department of Transportation, Jeannie Richardson, President and CEO of The Digital Architects, Inc., Dr. Janet Brown, retired radiologist and dermatologist, Monica Smiley, President and Founder of Enterprising Women Foundation, and Kimberly Groves, President and CEO of KCW.
This impressive group of students came prepared in business attire, brimming with questions to ask the panelists. Most impressively, they lined up to continue their conversations with the mentors post-event until the last moment before their bus back to school arrived. The panelists were amazed with the students’ eagerness and dedication on their journeys in STEM.
KCW STEM Scholarship & Shadow Day
This year’s KCW STEM Scholarship will support a student to attend the Enterprising Women Conference that inspired it all. With the generosity of Monica Smiley, President and Founder of Enterprising Women Foundation, KCW’s scholarship will be extended to send an additional student to the conference, where they will connect with executive women from across the world. Scholarship recipients Lucille Kopin & Noelle Dunn and runners-up Britney Castle & Daniela Pena will receive a Shadow Day at KCW with personal mentoring from KCW engineers and designers.
Just as KCW is committed to developing authentic relationships, Kimberly encouraged the students to maintain these connections throughout their budding careers. KCW looks forward to continued efforts to host mentorship events and provide our annual KCW STEM Scholarship. #KCWcares
