Kimberly M. Groves, P.E.

President, CEO

As Chief Executive Officer and President, Kimberly leads KCW in creating, planning, implementing and integrating the strategic direction of the company. She works with all levels of management to coordinate our technical, financial and organizational activities. As a member of KCW’s team since 1994, Kim’s experience in the business and engineering world have afforded her the necessary comprehensive knowledge of our Company to communicate and interact with KCW’s diverse community of corporate, municipal, residential, commercial, institutional and industrial clients.

Kimberly graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware. She began her career at KCW by working as an intern while completing her degree. Upon graduation Kim continued her professional development by earning her professional engineering license. She is a registered professional engineer in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia with engineering experience in cadastral and topographic surveys, site geometry, grading, culvert, highway and road design, storm drain design, water mains, sanitary sewer, telephone conduit, electric conduit, culvert design, stormwater management design, erosion and sediment control design, floodplain analysis, stream restoration and as-built certification. Kim is a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Maryland Society of Professional Engineers and Maryland Society of Surveyors.

Melissa M. Walker

Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

melissa_newMelissa has extensive experience in a wide range of leadership, management, and advisory positions. In the role of Chief Financial Officer, she provides the executive team with timely and accurate financial statements, ongoing cash flow projections, oversight over accounting and finance operations, as well as design and maintenance of the financial reporting structures.

In addition to her accounting and finance oversight responsibilities, as the Executive Vice President, Melissa participates in all decisions, in conjunction with ownership partners, affecting the operations and control of the company. Melissa joined the accounting department at KCW through a high school work study program. While receiving her Bachelor of Administration Degree in Accounting at the University of Oklahoma, she worked as a financial analyst at Kempton Group Administrators. Melissa returned to KCW as the CFO, restructuring and implementing new fully-integrated business and financial information systems.

As a female business owner, Melissa enjoys being a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She is also highly involved in her local church, where she actively serves women and her surrounding community.

J. Peter McDonnell

Vice President

peter_newSince joining KCW in 1986, Peter has worked in every department in the company. He has extensive experience in the planning, coordination, and engineering design of various telecommunications, utility, and land development projects. Duties include design of conduit and manhole systems for fiber optic and copper telephone systems and electrical distribution systems; right-of-way acquisition and engineering design of telecommunication facilities including controlled environmental vaults; joint buried design of OSP facilities; land surveying including construction stakeout traverse control, topographic surveys, boundary surveys and legal descriptions of land; design of roads, storm drains, sanitary sewers, water mains, grading, erosion and sediment control measures, stormwater management ponds, water quality facilities and analysis of flood plains; design of traffic control measures; management of design teams including survey crews, project surveyors, deed and utility researchers, CAD operators, designers, engineers and construction inspectors; environmental permitting of construction in wetlands, streams and waterfronts with local, state and Federal agencies; right-of-way acquisition for telecommunication and electrical facilities and bridges; preparation of feasibility studies for metro area-wide fiber optic rings in various cities from Jacksonville, Florida to Buffalo, New York.

Prior to joining KCW, Peter worked as a Junior Engineer for the Cork Harbour Commissioners in Ireland on a large port development project and as a Research Assistant for the Norwegian Roads Research Laboratory in Oslo, Norway on a project to classify geotextiles used in road construction. He has a BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the National University of Ireland.

William K. Woody, L.S.

While he is no longer involved directly in the day to day operations of KCW, William K. Woody, L.S. has a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of engineering and land surveying. One of the original founders of KCW back in 1979, he was the sole owner of KCW from 1996 to 2008. On January 1, 2009, Bill entered into a partnership with the current four co-owners, thus becoming KCW’s President Emeritus. He has over 40 years of experience including engineering, coordination, and surveying of aerial and underground facilities for telecommunication, electric, gas and cable television projects for companies such as Verizon, Pepco, BGE, and Comcast. Civil Engineering experience includes site planning, layout and site geometry; grading and earthwork; design of highways, roads, storm drains, culverts, sanitary sewer and water mains; stormwater management; soil erosion and sediment control and construction inspection. Land Surveying experience includes topographic surveys, boundary surveys, ALTA Land Title surveys, right of way acquisition surveys for highway and regulated electric and telecommunication projects.

After years of successfully building, leading and growing KCW, Bill now enjoys time spent on the water, with family and traveling.
