Maryland Society of Surveyors Plat Competition 2015
Happy surveyor’s week! In honor, we have a throwback post to when our survey team placed in the Maryland Society of Surveyors Awards. These awards are in place to recognize the professionalism of surveyors within the state of Maryland. In 2015, KCW placed first, second and third in various categories of this competition! Our company also placed for boundary work in the 2013 competition.
The KCW survey team won both first and second place in the Field Run Topographic Survey category!
A topographical survey is a three-dimensional map of a specific location.
The KCW survey team also won second and third place in the Special Purpose Survey category!
This category is for miscellaneous survey jobs that are not easily categorized. KCW won for an as built survey that revealed an error in an existing survey for a local building. KCW’s updated survey, completed by our Chief of Surveys, Matthew, displayed the original survey was off by one foot.
The competition is judged based on three categories: compliance, originality and overall appearance. Compliance ensures that the team followed surveying standards in the state of Maryland. Originality is determined by whether the plat was placed in an unusual situation and whether it is depicted clearly. The final criteria is based on the overall appearance of the plat and whether it meets aesthetic standards. Some criteria are if it is completed in a professional manner, and is neat, balanced, consistent and legible.
Winning this award was a special honor because the panel of judges consists of our peers and fellow surveyors. Congratulations to our survey team for the hard work and diligence they continue to put into their work this year! Here’s to striving for excellence and the prospect of future awards to recognize our survey team’s work! We look forward to seeing them succeed further.
