The Power of Partnerships: Druid Heights Playground

Volunteers build Druid Heights Playground in less than 8 hours

Volunteers build Druid Heights Playground in less than 8 hours.

The work of KaBOOM & The CarMax Foundation can be seen on playgrounds across the nation, and KCW was honored to play a role in this work in our home city of Baltimore. On October 25, these organizations joined the Druid Heights Community Development Corporation (DHCDC), alongside community members to build the playground in less than 8 hours!

While we value every opportunity and project we complete, there is incredible reward in volunteering our services for a project that enhances the lives of the next generation. For this project, we helped with land planning by acquiring an approved building permit and creating a grading plan to prepare the land for the playground’s construction. Our survey crews staked-out the perimeter of the playground for the grading contractor to prepare the site.

With excited spirits, volunteers admired the finished playground at the ribbon cutting, where The CarMax Foundation surprised the DHCDC with a $10,000 check to continue improvements in the Druid Heights community. In 2018, the KaBOOM organization plans to bring playgrounds to more than 300,000 kids through its $5 million partnership with The CarMax Foundation. With this project, we were able to witness the power a partnership between nonprofits and corporations has in the community. We saw their willingness to volunteer their time and services to improve the lives of those around them and enhance their local communities, and we were pleased to do the same.
