The holiday season is a great time for companies to give back to their communities through local charities and organizations!

The holiday season can be a great reminder of generosity and kindness. As part of a company in the Baltimore or D.C. area, there are countless opportunities to help those in the communities around you. Below are a few organizations that could be a great chance to give back this year if your company is looking to get involved.

House of Ruth

House of Ruth is an organization that provides shelter and necessities to women and children facing an abusive situation. Domestic abuse is a devastating issue and this organization helps to combat it. This season you can adopt a family for the holiday and provide them with gifts or necessities or you can also hold a fundraiser to collect donations for the residents. The donation deadline is December 7-10.

Toys for Tots

A well-known organization that helps less-fortunate children around the holiday season. This organization helps kids have an exciting and positive holiday experience through the giving of gifts. You can donate toys to the drive and help make a positive difference in a child’s holiday.

Maryland Food Bank

This organization helps prevent hunger across the state. With programs that work with schools, clubs and families in Maryland, they are always looking for volunteers who can help sort the food, harvest crops or flash-freeze meals.

Homeless Children’s Playtime Project

This organization in Washington D.C. helps ensure that children who may not have a home or the means for a suitable lifestyle are able to have a nurturing childhood. They provide the children with aid for affordable housing, activities, playtime, healthy snacks and shelter to help encourage their growth and positivity during a difficult time. You can volunteer your time at their shelter or you can collect goods and necessities for the children within the project.

Weinberg Resource Center

Located in Baltimore, this organization is devoted to helping the homeless around the area. There are several ways to get involved and give back this season, which include adopting a family to provide gifts or gift cards, volunteering your time to help serve breakfast or dinner at their center or putting together an “essentials” kit to donate.

Thrive DC

As an organization dedicated to helping the homeless of D.C., Thrive DC helps you to get involved by serving a meal to the residents or by helping them with computer literacy. Volunteers who are able to teach computer skills improve the likelihood that those facing homelessness can rebuild their lives and receive employment.
